Howard County Executive Calvin Ball honored ‘Rise to the Challenge’ awards in 19 categories during a ceremony at Merriweather Post Pavilion on Sept 15, 2022. The awards are to recognize community members who made significant impact during the pandemic. The top winner in each category received the Rise to the Challenge ‘Sunrise Distinction’ designation. Clarksville Youth Care Group (CYCG) was honored Nonprofit Innovation Rise to the Challenge Award with Sunrise Distinction. River Hill High School principal Mrs. Lidgard celebrated the big moment with students and highlighted the event in RHHS Twitter. CYCG was the only student group to be recognized in the event. CYCG cares for community's health and safety. Over 120 students volunteered in CYCG's project. In 2020, CYCG made 3660 DIY face shields and donated to 100+ hospitals, clinics, dental offices, urgent cares, and first responders over 7 states. In 2021, CYCG handmade 1700+ Teacher Care kits and donated to 64 HCPSS schools. Now CYCG has delivered 850 Back-to-School Teacher/Staff/Bus Driver appreciation kits to 46 HCPSS schools or offices. This project is showcased at Miller Library till 9/30/2022. |
