On Aug 26, 2022, CYCG students Arthur Wang, Amanda Wang, and Wendy Gu donated 158 handmade bus driver appreciation kits to the HCPSS Transportation Office! Student Transportation Office Director Brian Nevin met the students and said: "This is incredibly thoughtful, and I know it will be greatly appreciated. The amount of time and effort that you and your fellow students put into this project is remarkable and truly demonstrates the compassion and talents of our student body. " In addition, 15 bus driver kits were also directly delivered to Waterloo Elementary School.
On 8/2/2022, CYCG was invited to the Clarksville Commons National Night Out (NNO) celebration. National Night Out is a community building campaign that prompts Police-Community bonding. Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and BoE member Chao Wu visited the booth and highly praised the student group. CYCG presented hand-made thank-you cards to police officers and firefighters and thanked them for their dedication to keep the community safe. Additionally, CYCG also hosted the paper flower upcycle project which attracted many young kids! Thanks to Arthur, Amanda, Grace C, Michael S, Emily S, Grace Z, and Wendy for hosting the booth!
On 7/30/2022, CYCG hosted a very popular upcycle project, teaching young kids how to make paper roses from old magazines or post-it notes. Over 30 kids visited the booth and learned how to make the long-lasting beautiful roses which are perfect for Mother's Day, Teacher Appreciation week, birthday gifts, or for decoration. The student-made cards were still very popular and attracted many people. Thanks to Amanda, Grace, Isa, Jiaming, Wendy, Anna, Nicole, and Annie for running the booth!
On 7/23/2022, CYCG participated in the Clarksville Commons Farmer's Market. CYCG sold student-hand-made crafts, such as hand-drawn T-shirts, pencil pouches, scrunchies, greeting cards, and hosted a free upcycle craft. Hand-made dry-flower cards, hand-painted/drawn cards, stone cards were very popular. This week, they taught kids how to make beautiful flowers or wall art from a toilet paper roll. Thanks Amanda, Jeremy, Claire, Michael, Jiaming, Isa, and Wendy for running the booth!
On July 15, 2022, OX Orthodontix was very generous to donate 200+ chapsticks and 400 more pencils to Clarksville Youth Care Group! Amanda picked them up from their Ellicott City office. These items will be added to the Back-to-School Teacher Appreciation Bags. Thank you, OX!
On July 16, 2022, Clarksville Youth Care Group hosted a booth at Clarksville Common's Farmers Market! The booth offered various handmade items made by students, such as hand-drawn animal T-shirts, pencil pouches, dry flower cards, hand-painted cards, and face masks. CYCG also hosted a free weekly upcycle project to prompt environmental sustainability. Many young kids learned how to turn magazines into beautiful paper beads bracelets. Amanda, Jeremy, Barbara, Emily Z, Claire, Wendy and Yuehao ran the booth. Congress man John Sarbanes visited the booth and congratulated the group for their achievements.
On June 26, 2022, Clarksville Youth Care Group hosted a seminar and workshop in Miller Library to introduce the newly launched Back-to-School Teacher/Bus Driver Appreciation Kits project. Many students came to learn the volunteer opportunities such as card/bag makers, school coordinators, outreach managers and more. Two workshops to teach how to make dry flower cards and sewing followed after the seminar. The project is proudly funded by Howard County Innovation Grant. CYCG plans to deliver the handmade appreciation kits to teachers and bus drivers during the back-to-school week.
OX Orthodontix, the voted best orthodontist of Howard County in 2021, donated school supplies to Clarksville Youth Care Group on July 8, 2022. The donated pencils and ChapSticks will be put into the handmade Back-to-School Teacher Appreciate Kits for HCPSS teachers! CYCG gave OX some pretty handmade cards as thank-you gifts! Thank you, OX! We are so grateful for your support!
